Pleached Trees USA

Premium Pleached Trees, Delivered Stateside

Just Pleachy is exploring the possibility of bringing premium pleached trees to the USA and wider American market.

Inspired by elegant English garden design, pleached trees are becoming increasingly popular with homeowners, landscape designers, and architects looking for a more refined and natural way to create privacy, structure, and luxury outdoor spaces.

While well established across the UK and Europe, pleached trees remain relatively undiscovered across much of America. We believe there is exciting potential for this style of planting within high-end residential landscaping across the United States.

What Are Pleached Trees?

Pleached trees are trained into elegant flat screens above a clear stem, creating beautiful living walls of foliage that provide privacy without making a garden feel enclosed.

Popular throughout the UK and Europe, pleached trees are often used as living privacy screens, natural privacy fences, architectural garden trees, and luxury landscape screening. They work beautifully around pools, patios, terraces, driveways, and outdoor entertaining spaces.

Unlike traditional fencing or dense hedging, pleached trees allow light and openness beneath the foliage while still creating a strong sense of screening and separation. The result feels softer, more architectural, and far more connected to nature.

Why Pleached Trees Could Work Across America

Across many parts of the USA, there is already a growing appreciation for luxury landscaping, outdoor entertaining, natural privacy, and architecturally designed gardens. From coastal homes and estate properties to modern suburban landscaping projects, pleached trees could offer a unique alternative to traditional fencing, walls, or heavy evergreen screening.

At the moment, we are potentially looking at introducing the concept initially within parts of the Northeast USA, where the climate and garden culture may feel more naturally aligned with many traditional pleached tree species. Areas such as New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New Hampshire feel especially promising.

That said, we are very open to suggestions and would love to hear where homeowners, landscapers, garden designers, and architects across the United States feel pleached trees could work well.

Best Pleached Tree Species For The USA

At this stage, everything remains theoretical, but some possible pleached tree ideas for American climates could include a mixture of deciduous and evergreen species suitable for privacy screening and luxury landscape design.

Among the deciduous options, American Hornbeam (Carpinus caroliniana) feels especially promising thanks to its hardiness, dense branching, and beautiful autumn colour. European Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), widely considered the gold standard for pleaching globally, could also work well in selected US climates alongside species such as Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) for its striking seasonal colour and architectural form.

For evergreen privacy, possible options could include compact forms of  Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora), particularly varieties such as Little Gem and Teddy Bear, alongside Novita Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) and Nellie R. Stevens Holly, all known for responding well to pruning and creating dense green screening.

Again, these are simply early ideas at this stage, and we would absolutely welcome feedback, suggestions, and local growing insight from homeowners, landscapers, nurseries, and horticultural experts across America.

A More Natural Approach To Privacy

As more American homeowners look to soften hard boundaries and create gardens that feel calmer and more immersive, pleached trees offer an elegant alternative to traditional fencing and artificial screening.

They combine privacy, architecture, and nature in a way that feels timeless rather than trend-led. Whether framing a pool terrace, screening neighbouring properties, or creating a more secluded entertaining space, pleached trees can help transform gardens into outdoor rooms that feel both refined and welcoming.
