We have worked with Rolawn to identify the most suitable topsoil for planting our pleached trees. Following their advice, we recommend Rolawn Turf & Lawn Seeding Topsoil because of its effective drainage, consistent texture, and excellent workability. This premium quality, free draining topsoil provides a reliable foundation for healthy root establishment. Its loamy sand texture makes it particularly suitable for planting trees in raised beds and large planters, as well as preparing tree pits.
Carefully blended to provide effective drainage and a stable, workable structure, the soil remains friable even when damp. This makes it easy to place around rootballs and incorporate into the wider planting area.
The soil is screened to 20mm and contains minimal stone, producing a fine and consistent texture. It can also be paired with Jack’s Magic All Purpose Compost. Although suitable for planting pleached trees, this versatile, dual purpose topsoil can also be used when preparing the ground for new turf or sowing lawn seed.
It’s supplied in convenient bulk bags and usually offloaded using a tail lift lorry. The bag can be then moved into position using a manual pallet truck where access allows and a firm, flat surface is available.
